The Vice-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged to step down from office if an ADC-led federal administration fails to deliver visible, transformative results within its first year in power following the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made the declaration during an interview on Africa Independent Television (AIT) broadcast on Wednesday evening, September 30, 2026, at the network’s national headquarters studio in Abuja. His remarks followed an address delivered earlier that afternoon at the ADC National Women League Conference in Abuja.

Addressing the nation’s severe economic challenges, the former Minister of Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State stated that an ADC executive presidency, running on a joint ticket alongside presidential flagbearer Atiku Abubakar, would prioritise fixing the nation’s economy, restoring national security, and tackling public sector corruption.

”This time I will say this: if Nigeria does not begin to change one year after we get to office, come to me, and I will resign,” Amaechi stated during his appearance.

Amaechi emphasised that one year is sufficient to establish clear indicators of economic stability, curbing inflation, food scarcity, and government extravagance.

Speaking at the women’s conference, Amaechi lamented the rising cost of living and noted that out-of-school children statistics had risen to nearly 20 million under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Amaechi urged party delegates and ward coordinators to return to their respective states and mobilise local communities to secure votes ahead of the polls. He warned that a victory for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 would force top opposition leaders out of active political life.
