The internal wrangling within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a dramatic turn on Monday, August 24, 2026, as the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) officially disowned Abayomi Hunye, calling him an imposter over his assertion as the party’s 2027 governorship ticket.
​The ruling party unequivocally declared Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” as its sole and duly recognized governorship candidate for Ogun State in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
​Speaking at a press briefing at the APC National Secretariat in Buhari House, Abuja, the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed Hunye’s assertions as false, unauthorized, and invalid.
​According to Basiru, Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition alleging anti-party activities submitted by executive members of his home ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area.
​”Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing,” Basiru stated. “He is an imposter currently on suspension. The NWC has not issued any ticket to him, and any declaration framing him as our candidate is entirely fraudulent.”
​Echoing the national leadership’s stance, the Ogun State APC Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, issued a concurrent statement from the party’s state secretariat in Abeokuta. Oladunjoye clarified that Senator Adeola won the primary election and subsequently selected Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as his running mate, with both names already submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
​In response to the NWC’s declaration, Hunye’s media team released a counter-statement in the late hours of Monday evening, denying that he had explicitly declared himself the official candidate.
​Speaking through his media coordinator, Hunye insisted that his challenge against the outcome of the party’s primary election remains active before a court of competent jurisdiction. His camp maintained that until the court delivers a final judgment on the legitimacy of the nomination process, the candidate selection remains subject to judicial determination.
​Despite the legal pushback, the party leadership advised the general public and electoral authorities to disregard any parallel claims and rely solely on official communications from the APC NWC.
