The Anambra State Government has called on voters across the state, specifically members and loyalists of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to reject Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general election.

The directive was issued during an executive stakeholder meeting held on Monday morning, October 5, 2026, at the Government House, Awka.

Addressing state officials, party chieftains, and news correspondents, senior spokespersons for the administration accused Obi of repeatedly abandoning and attempting to destabilize the political party that originally elevated him to public office.

Speaking on behalf of the administration, state political communications officials emphasized that supporting Obi’s latest presidential run under the NDC would be counterproductive to the regional interests of the South-East.

”Since leaving office in 2014, Peter Obi has pursued political ambitions across multiple party platforms at the expense of APGA’s growth,” official statements noted during the briefing. “We urge all faithful party members, Ndi APGA and the broader electorate in Anambra to protect their political heritage and resist the urge to cast votes for the NDC candidate in 2027.”

The state administration highlighted Obi’s political trajectory, noting his departure from APGA to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his subsequent move to the Labour Party for the 2023 elections, and his current candidacy under the NDC. Officials argued that these frequent shifts demonstrate a lack of long-term political ideology and party loyalty.

The announcement comes amidst escalating political tensions between current Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration and the former governor’s campaign organization. Recent public disagreements over financial records, infrastructure accounts, and state debt liabilities from Obi’s 2006–2014 tenure have further strained relations between both political camps in Awka.

As of Monday afternoon, representatives for Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress campaign organization have yet to issue an official counter-statement regarding the Anambra State Government’s declarations.
