The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has pledged to attract major investments into key sectors, particularly agriculture, to cushion economic hardship and drive down the high cost of living across the state.
Speaking during an interactive campaign engagement and economic blueprint presentation on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the PDP State Secretariat in Umuahia, Dr. Anosike decried the soaring inflation affecting households in Abia State.
Addressing party leaders, local stakeholders, and supporters, Anosike highlighted the state’s heavy reliance on imported food items despite possessing abundant fertile land.
“Abia remains one of the most expensive states to live in because the government has done little or nothing in agriculture,” Anosike stated. “Daily, heavy trailers bring goods from other states to Abia even though we have fertile land. Our administration will implement a complete agricultural revolution, attracting targeted private-sector investments to ensure food security and reduce living costs.”
He further argued that state governments must take direct responsibility by creating local programs to ease inflation and promote economic development.
Also speaking at the venue, the Chairman of the Abia PDP Governorship Campaign Council, Ambassador Empire Kanu, commended Anosike’s economic roadmap, comparing it to the visionary agricultural model of the late Premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara.
“Dr. Anosike’s blueprint mirrors the transformative industrial and agricultural initiatives of Dr. Michael Okpara. It will unlock Abia’s untapped resources, stimulate sustainable growth, and directly improve the welfare of our residents,” Amb. Kanu said.
Similarly, the Abia State PDP Chairman, Abraham Amah, described Anosike’s candidacy as a major turning point for the party.
“What we are witnessing is the manifestation of God. The PDP was almost gone in Abia State, but Dr. Anosike’s emergence has restored hope, united our members, and positioned us to reclaim leadership,” Amah remarked.
Dr. Anosike’s campaign agenda focuses on industrialization, interest-free loans for local artisans, civil service wage reforms, and sustainable agricultural development ahead of the governorship poll scheduled for February 6, 2027.
