A 16-year-old JSS 3 student, Friday Ogamude, has been arrested for allegedly beating his 35-year-old teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, to death on Thursday at UBE Secondary School, Oju Centre in Benue State. The fatal confrontation reportedly erupted after Friday demanded the return of a school cap Mr. Oyibe had confiscated since May 2025. Eyewitnesses say the teacher collapsed on the spot before being rushed to Amara Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Security units confirmed the suspect is in custody and a full investigation has been launched. The victim’s remains have been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary in Oju pending autopsy. Benue police described the incident as deeply troubling and pledged to ensure justice is served.
