As 16 bag first class degrees
Sixteen students, nine from College of Law, have graduated with First Class Degrees from Gregory University, Uturu (GUU) Abia State, at the 9th Convocation of the university.
The ceremony which took place at the weekend saw Awo Obisike Austin from the College of Law, becoming the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.81.
Other best graduating students included Onobun Christian Christian Eromobor Computer Science (4.72 CGPA), Ezeigbo Amarachi Accounting (4.72 CGPA) and Ombeh Tarelayefa Clinton who scored 4.69 CGPA in Law.
A total of 190 First degree students graduated with 16 making First Class, 87 making Second Class Upper, 86 making Second Class Lower and 1 student graduating with Third Class.
Also, five post-graduate students got Ph.D, seven M.Sc/MA while three students graduated with post graduate diplomas.
Addressing the convocating students, the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Professor Cele Njoku enthused that the school has again turned out another set of graduates with functional skills to face the global competition.
Prof Njoku, who charged the graduates to maintain the high academic standard inculcated in them, said the founder of the University, Professor Gregory Ibe constructed an adequate physical learning environment for infrastructure for students and staff.
She said that an adequate security mechanism has been put in place in the school for the security of lives of students even as she maintained that there is zero tolerance for campus cultism and other social voices which thrive in some other institutions.
Chancellor of the University, Okechukwu Gregory Ibe Jnr., who donated money to the students that distinguished themselves, charged  the graduates  to always remember that the global landscape is shifting rapidly while solutions can only be created by resilient leaders of tomorrow.
Also, the Inaugural lecturer, Professor Mike Ozekhome who was honoured with Honorary Doctor, offered a free internship for the best graduating student, Awo Obisike Austin to serve in his chambers even as he donated money to best graduating students in various fields and instituted various permanent awards for future best graduating students.
During the event, Professor Bath Nnaji was given Honorary Doctor of Engineering, while Professor Evaritus Anyaehie was honoured as Emeritus Professor.
