Armed bandits stormed a mosque in Unguwan Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing 13 worshippers during early morning Fajr prayers on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. The attack, confirmed by Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, was a reprisal following a community ambush two days earlier, where villagers killed several bandits, rescued kidnapped victims from Ruwan Sanyi village, and seized three motorcycles and two AK-47 rifles.
Mu’azu told journalists the assailants opened fire indiscriminately on the congregation around 5 a.m., leaving several others injured. Security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and Air Force, have been deployed to restore order and pursue the perpetrators, who often hide in farmlands during the rainy season.
The Katsina State Government condemned the attack, saluting the bravery of Unguwan Mantau residents for their earlier defense efforts. “We stand with the victims and their families during this difficult time and will not relent until peace is restored,” Mu’azu said, extending condolences and reaffirming support for community-based security initiatives.
