The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Adamawa State has announced the seizure of 589.536 kilogrammes of illicit drugs across 21 Local Government Areas between July and August 2025.
State Commander, Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed this at a press briefing in Yola on Wednesday, describing the exercise as part of the command’s transparency and accountability drive in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
According to him, the command arrested 107 suspects, including female offenders, within the two-month period and also impounded four cars linked to the crimes.
“This is a presentation of the scorecard for Adamawa Command of the NDLEA for the months of July and August 2025. This presentation is in line with our commitment to transparency, accountability and fostering public trust in our collective fight against the scourge of drug abuse and illicit trafficking,” Abubakar said.
He further revealed that the command secured convictions for 15 persons, sentencing them to varying terms of imprisonment. Another 50 cases are currently pending before the Federal High Court in Yola, while 23 defendants were remanded in prison custody and 14 fresh charges filed during the period.
On rehabilitation efforts, Abubakar disclosed that 12 out of 22 drug-dependent persons had successfully completed treatment and were reintegrated into society. He added that the command had reached more than 10,729 students, educators and other groups through its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns and enlightenment programmes.
“During the period under review, a drug integrity test was conducted on 73 persons, while N340,271 was generated and remitted accordingly,” he noted.
In his remarks, the Zonal Commander in Yola, Ishaku Kwajafa, praised the Adamawa command for the progress achieved, saying the successes were a reflection of teamwork. He urged officers recently promoted or commended to see their recognition as a call to greater responsibility.
At the event, Abubakar decorated five senior officers elevated to new ranks, while 12 personnel received letters of commendation from the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Buba Marwa.
